The Modern American: Michael Kors’ Classic Jet Set Style

When you think of classic American jet set, unequivocally Michael Kors comes to mind. Our favorite, fabulously tanned, Project Runway judge is our style guru for casual, but always chic dressing. Michael teaches us an important fashion lesson: style isn’t about being trendy or fussy, it can be as effortless as a white t-shirt and jeans; the substance comes in killer accessories. Throw on the aviators, the menswear watch and a pair of high heeled gold sandals. Stick to neutrals, but don’t forgo an unexpected pop of color.

Michael Kors started his fashion career in his parents’ basement, selling clothing from a makeshift boutique he named the Iron Butterfly. By 1981 he had his first department store line. Fast forward to 2004, he launched the wildly popular MICHAEL and KORS lines.

“Ultimately, clean lines have greater longevity, which women appreciate, and to which they can add their own personality. And if you’re busy, it kind of cleans the palate and lets you get on with your life,” Kors told Women’s Wear Daily in 1996.
