It Girls — Spring 2014’s Best Fashion Ads

While some would say fashion advertisements are better left to career models, I’ve been impressed with some of the celebrity-centered campaigns for Spring 2014. Using an actress or singer for a print ad is nothing new, but for high fashion, the concept could easily backfire. The lady must be a chameleon, walking a fine line to not overshadow the brand, while still make her presence felt. Here are some of my favorites:

J-Law for Dior
Jennifer Lawrence really is the darling of Dior. She stuns in the fashion house’s gowns on the red carpet and now she’s exuding an elegance in this Spring ad campaign. “It feels nice when you’re dressed in something beautiful and you feel beautiful or you wear an outfit you feel really proud of… it can be really fun and therefore make you happier,” Jennifer has said.

Rihanna for Balmain
Rihanna is no stranger to ad campaigns, but I wouldn’t have necessarily foreseen her as the next face of a French fashion house. She pulls it off though, and if it seems like it’s a perfect fit, it’s because she was part of the inspiration for the collection. She is good friends with Balmain’s Creative Director Olivier Rousteing. Rousteing told“I wanted a strong, real woman in the clothes. For me, Rihanna is a power. And she pushes boundaries on everything.”

Miley for Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs has nothing but nice things to say about the controversial singer: “We all just love her and her entire being, her talent, her intelligence, everything.” Although, according to E! Online, Jacobs’ in-house photographer Juergen Teller refused to shoot her. The photos were shot by David Sims instead. Say what you will about Miley, but she nails a dark, almost haunted look in the ad series.
